Metro Not To Run On Mondays For Maintenance

The MahaMetro officials woke up from the slumber on Tuesday after facing a lot of complaints about sudden cancellation of services and officially issued a communique to the media. It informed that the train’s services would remain closed every Monday towards “maintenance and construction block”, till further orders. It also informed that the services would remain closed on Thursday on account of Holi festival.

Metro officials told TOI that it was becoming difficult for them to construct second rail line and even the work on its various stations was severely affected due to continuous running of the train. Though the MahaMetro started train services in haste under obvious pressure from politicians in view of the ensuing elections, most of its work, particularly of the stations, was incomplete, its officials revealed.

Since its launch on March 7 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Metro has launched its passenger services on route between Khapri Metro Station and Sitabuldi Interchange Station. It also covers three more stations — New Airport, Airport South and Airport. Another route from Subhash Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar passing though Hingna is yet to be opened for public, as work is still incomplete, the officials said.

They, however, refused to inform about official figures on number of passengers availing the Metro services and revenue earned till this week. The officials only shared first week’s figures where they informed that over 11,000 commuters travelled and MahaMetro earned over Rs1.55 lakh from the ticket sales.
